Shu Uemura Brush
Shu Uemura Brush – I’ve been a makeup artist for ten years. In that time, I’ve used many different product lines. When I’m doing makeovers I often get asked, “What is your favorite line?” I always give the diplomatic answer that I like items from all lines, which is true. However, by far my favorite line today is Shu Uemura. Mr. Shu Uemura began as a makeup artist in Hollywood in 1955. He developed and started his cosmetic line in 1960. He is no longer living but Gina Brooke, makeup artist to Madonna, is now the creative director.
Shu Uemura Brush – The reason I like this line so much is that it’s well rounded. They have fantastic color and superb skin care. In my opinion, they have the best brushes in the industry. The eye shadows are so soft they feel like silk and are not hard on the delicate eye area. They have great pigment, and texture. The foundation, skin care and many of the cosmetics are made with Depsea Water. This is a formulation founded by Mr. Uemura himself. Depsea water includes materials from the bottom of the sea in Japan where it is processed and manufactured in the Shu Uemura factory. The manufacturing process was perfected in 1989 by Mr. Shu Uemura. It contains 60 ocean minerals which boast the natural function of the skin. Everyone should try the cleansing oils; they are an awesome makeup remover. Mr. Uemura was inspired to create this revolutionary cleansing oil that removes all traces of makeup gently yet effectively as well as other types of pore clogging dirt while maintaining the skin’s natural sebum levels. The result is skin that is balanced, soft and comfortable.
Shu Uemura Brush – The makeup brushes are of exquisite quality. The bristles are hand stacked and are never cut. The bristles come from what is shed by the animal during the winter months when the brittles are the softest. Only the best animal hair is used. This results in absolutely magnificent brushes which aid in perfecting makeup application.
Shu Uemura Brush – One of the sexiest makeup looks is the smoky eye. However, if done incorrectly, this look can be disasterous. There is nothing more unappealing than a smoky eye look done wrong. A woman can end up looking like a clown, raccoon or zombie. Not good looks. When done right, however, a woman can end up looking like a sensual, beautiful goddess. You have to start off with the right basics. The first thing you’ll need is a good foundation. You want your skin tone to be even and your skin to look its best. Go for a coverage that’s not too matte, not too dewy.
Shu Uemura Brush – Rather than using foundation and powder as a base on your eyes, try a shadow base especially designed for this purpose. After your base has been applied, go for a light blush on the cheeks. Sheer rose or a pinky-peach color is nice. A light flush is preferable to dark blush. Now, it’s time to move to the eyes. Apply a sheer wash of a medium toned neutral all over the lid ending at the browbone. Then, use black gel or liquid eyeliner and trace around the entire eye, as close to the lash lid as you can get. After the eyeliner is completely dry, cover with one coat of black eye pencil, then smudge gently.
Shu Uemura Brush – The next step is to apply a charcoal colored powder shadow on the lid. The color should be most intense on the lid and crease, then blended gently to the browbone. Add a touch of white or cream colored shadow on the browbone to accent the eye and provide a highlight. Then, use the dark charcoal shade again with a slanted brush to apply it on top of your eyeliner under the eye. Dust a translucent powder over your eye makeup to set it. Then, curl your lashes with a good eyelash curler (I like Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler) and apply two coats of black lengthening mascara. Of course, you can also use false lashes if you like for an even more dramatic look.
Shu Uemura Brush – The smoky eye should be balanced with nude lips. Or, go for a color that is as close to your natural lip color as possible. A light gloss is OK but anything too shiny (or too matte) will take attention from your eyes. A word of wisdom — don’t ever try dark eyes and dark lips which gives an overmade appearance.
